The museum library

The library collects and develops literature that aids the scientific work in the museum and the exhibitions. It is also open to interested members of the public free of charge. The collection comprises 50,000 books and periodicals as well as around 30 current trade journals.
The library is a member of the group of Frankfurt Museum Libraries and has been part of the SWB (Südwestdeutscher Bibliotheksverbund/South-West German Library Group) since 2014. The collections can be researched online WWW-OPAC.

Focal points of the library
The technical literature on the museum’s collections is complemented by books on museology, restoration and conservation. The collections on numismatics and art and cultural history are especially large. The literature on textiles and costumes is supplemented by the comprehensive collection of around 4,500 volumes: “Fashion, traditional dress, costumes”, a donation by Eva Larraß, Darmstadt, with a focus on the history of European clothing.

Using the library
This is a reference library, meaning materials cannot be checked out. There are quiet workspaces with a view of the Main and a photocopier/scanner.
Because this is a one-person library, we kindly ask our users to briefly register in advance before their visit to the library at bibliothek(at)historisches-museum-frankfurt.de.
