Emperor Makers in Frankfurt

Following the footsteps of elected and crowned leaders, this city walk leads from the historic imperial palace in the Saalhof, where you will see the imperial insignia, to the imperial cathedral as a place of elections and coronations, via the old coronation path to the Römerberg (with a visit to the imperial hall, if possible). From the very beginning under Charlemagne, through the electoral rules laid down in the Golden Bull of Emperor Charles IV, to the rituals and ceremonies of coronation and the celebrations after, the tour follows the path of the electors and takes a look at the archdukes who conducted them.

The trade fair city Frankfurt

Frankfurt's rise from a small rural town to a European trade fair and trading city from the medieval to the modern age is lively demonstrated by the city walk from the old Frankfurt harbour at the Toll Tower to the "Leinwandhaus" over the "Domhügel" back to the Römerberg.  Between exhibition stands and patrician houses not only trade and money exchange takes place during the time of the fair, in the middle of old rituals people heard news from all over the world and enjoyed the spectacle. All social classes meet, from beggars and prostitutes to citizens and patricians to merchants from all over Europe.

1848 – Revolution in Frankfurt

German politics and Frankfurt relations, Pre-March and the bourgeois revolution: between Paulskirche and the reconstructed Palais Thurn und Taxis, not only the role of groups and individuals - especially the participation of the Frankfurters, the work of the National Assembly and the reasons for its failure - can be traced, but also the places of barricades and shootings or the literary Frankfurt and the salon of Clothilde Koch-Gontard are part of the tour. The city tour can be extended by a trip to the main cemetery (U5) to the graves of the fallen in 1848.
