The CityLab on the search for traces today –
Frankfurt and Nazism

December 9, 2021 – September 11, 2022

Where in Frankfurt can traces of National Socialism be found? How do different people perceive such traces in the present?

For the CityLab "Searching for traces today" a group of Frankfurt residents embarked on a search for traces of nazism they experience in their present-day lifes. In a participatory process, they examine places, things, or events that are reminiscent of the Nazi era and deal with questions which imprints, feelings, attitudes, or ideals from the Nazi era persist and in what way
.

In a series of workshops, memory work becomes accessible to all participants. It will be questioned who or what is actually meant when we talk about "memory culture" today. In the CityLab workshops, we search together for individual approaches to history that enable a contemporary and diverse society to deal with the Nazi past.

The CityLab participants are being supported in their research by curators, archivists and exhibition designers. The results will be presented in an exhibition starting December 9, 2021, which is intended to encourage visitors to deal with Nazi history and to work on their own memories.
